Ever since I started my twitter account –> @anAPEXmale and decided to write a blog last week, I have immersed myself in the world of writing and given it every waking thought.
Am I just excited because it’s new?
Is it my ego feeding off the thrill of creating and having others review my work and tell me how it speaks to them and how much they love it?
Either way I really enjoy this. For the first time in a long long time I feel incredibly useful. Not that I didn’t think much of myself before I started this endeavour, more how I have realised that I am living up to my true potential.
You ever get that feeling that you were made to do be more than you are?
You might be a 20-something, fresh out of university and discovering the world.
Or you might be 40 years old, in a dead-end career, where you have ZERO job satisfaction and an horrible SEX-LESS relationship.
Or you might be somewhere in the middle. Your life is going okay. Nothing special. But you’re oh so very bored. Bored of being SO average.
Wherever you are in life, it’s a common feeling that can reign over us all.
Hell, even the rich and famous can feel this way.
Britney Spears shaved her head during her mental breakdown.
This was partly to cover up her from drug abuse, and partly due to her losing custody of her children.
Have you ever cared about something so much that you would ruin your entire life just to get it back?
In some ways I admire her. The stress she went through was immense, and considering she was on crystal meth and about 30 types of prescription amphetamines, I’d say she handled her situation quite well…
Today we shall be using Britney’s misfortune for inspiration.
We shall be doing a fun interactive exercise.
I want you to go get a pen and paper.
This exercise is optional.
But there will be VALUE in it for you if you do it.
I promise you won’t regret it.
Here we go…
Write a list of THREE THINGS (we are going to call them VENN’S. keep reading) that you would put your life on the line for.
These VENN’S can be people you love, your job, or your cat and even your favourite Tefal pan. (For your sake, if you do put that down you really need to get to work. Really.)
If you can’t even think of THREE that you have right now, then focus on THREE you want for the future.
Why VENN’S? I shall explain.
You know what a Venn diagram is, don’t you?
HINT: It is a diagram representing mathematical or logical sets pictorially as circles or closed curves within an enclosing rectangle (the universal set), common elements of the sets being represented by intersections of the circles.
It looks something like this.
Put your VENN’S together and you will have an unconventional VENN diagram.
It’s not meant to abide by all the laws of statistics, just a fun take on a serious topic.
Write in the smaller VENN’S made by the intersections of the bigger VENN’S, what these things have in common.
What you love about them
What you hate about them
What makes them so similar
Why these VENN’S mean so much to you.
Colour it in if you want.
Why am I doing this?
This exercise will help you understand if these are the VENN’S you truly want, and why you want them so bad.
Writing goals down means you have committed.
Statistics show people who WRITE DOWN their goals have over an 80% higher success rate of achieving them.
And this will drive you farther to achieve them, faster than the Road Runner can ruin Wile E. Coyote’s birthday.
Again this isn’t mandatory, but I know my readers are thriving for success. And they would enjoy this exercise.
Hell, maybe you want to share yours to me on twitter.
Or privately, this is all great.
Mines already been shared.
You have made your very own PERFECT VENN GOALS DIAGRAM.
Look at it.
This piece of paper holds what you want most out of life.
And the emotions tied to them.
If you already have what you want, then good for you this will serve as a certificate of achievement.
If you do not, like I don’t… yet…
Then hang it above your bed, save it as your phones wallpaper, and get to work on achieving the PERFECT VENN GOALS DIAGRAM.
You have all the tools you need online. There’s not a skill that can’t be learnt in this hectic golden era of information.
There’s not a thing you can’t have if you work for it enough and want it hard enough.
The law of attraction works, you’ve just got to get off your arse and put the effort in.
Am I right?
My dad always told me I had great potential and while I did love myself I never thought much of that phrase because I didn’t think I had what it took to compete in the big scary world outside.
This did not come from a lack of self-confidence.
It came from my laziness.
I made excuses.
I would take a look at all the talented people in the world.
Look at all the Quentin Tarantinos and the Usain bolts and the Pablo Picassos.
How will I achieve what they have?
I guess it can make you feel like shit and belittle you when you realise you have zero talent.
I am sure maybe some of you are in the same boat I was in.
This feeling of not being good enough, it discouraged you from doing anything too worthwhile, that could have set you apart.
Because that’s what it did to me.
What I realised is that NOBODY has ZERO TALENT.
Everyone’s good at something, you just have to find out what it is.
I wrote this bit as the plane took off, after being delayed for 40 minutes
I hate waiting. I am someone who gets what I want when I decide I want it, not someone who waits about hoping someone will give it to them, out of sympathy.
I am writing this not because I have to.
I am writing this because I want to.
I want to touch the hearts of millions with my writing. And you must feel the same way about YOUR skills.
What is it that you do so effortlessly, with so much fluidity and you don’t even have to think about it?
What is it that you enjoy doing so much that sitting on a 40-minute delayed plane doesn’t even affect you, because you can just put your headphones in, think of your skill and move on with your life?
Find your VENN’S.
Find what motivates YOU.
And find your POSITIONING while simultaneously creating for yourself an UNFAIR ADVANTAGE over everyone else that is around you.
Most people live.
Not many people LIVE.
It took me a long time to realise writing was my SKILL.
Whoever tells you it’s too late is a liar, who doesn’t want to see you succeed.
It is never too late.
Now stop reading this.
Go out there
Find your VENN
And POSITION the fuck out of it.
Stay safe G’s
